Schemes for Disabled

1.DIRECTORATE OF SOCIAL WELFARE:

The Directorate of Social Welfare provides the following schemes for the disabled:

(a) Identity Card
    Requirements:
    Application (Download)
    Disability Certificate (Requirements)
    2 Passport size Photographs
    Birth Certificate
(b) Free Transport in Kadamba buses and ferries in Goa
(c) Stipend to disabled students
(d) Scholarship to disabled students from Std. IX onwards
(e) Books, Uniforms, Stationery to the Disabled studying in special schools
(f) Financial assistance for self employment to disabled persons
(g) Dayanand Social Security Scheme
(h) Claim of 50% subsidy for motorized vehicle on petrol/diesel to disabled
(i) Conveyance allowance to disabled persons
(j) Awards for marriage with the disabled
(k) Assistance to disabled to purchase aids/appliances
(l) Financial assistance to persons with severe disabilities
(m) Incentive to private enterpreneour to employ disabled
(n) Award for best NGO employer and disabled employees

2.DIRECTORATE OF EDUCATION:

The Directorate of Education provides the following schemes for the disabled:

(a) Grant of Rs. 500/- per annum on books and other stationery
(b) Fixed amount of Rs. 800/- per annum for uniform
(c) Travelling allowance of Rs: 200/- per month.
(d) Actual expenses on the equipment required for facilitating the child's education up to a maximum of Rs: 5,000/- once in 3 years (to be given in the first year)
(e) Escort allowance of Rs: 200/- per month, subject to attendance of 60% in the month

3.DISTRICT DISABILITY REHABILITATION CENTRE:

The District Disability Rehabilitation Centre offers the following services for the disabled:

(a) Aids and Appliances
(b) Assessment and Detection of Disability
(c) Counselling to Parents and Teachers
(d) Reference to Special Schools and Vocational Training Centres
(e) Awareness Programmes

4.NATIONAL HANDICAPPED FINANCE CORPORATION:

National Handicapped Finance Corporation provides financial assistance for the disabled at concessional rates of interest:

(a) For setting up small business in service/trading sector
(b) For agricultural activities
(c) For purchase of vehicle
(d) For self employment amongst persons with mental retardation, cerebral palsy and autism
(e) For setting up small industrial unit
(f) For education/training
(g) For skills and entrepreneurial development

5. GOA LABOUR WELFARE BOARD:

Rs. 3,000/- per month is provided for industrial workers who have a mentally retarded child.
